Objective
Post COVID-19, the world has seen the increasing importance of large-scale surveillance systems needed to track, comprehend, and understand issues affecting global health of the population at large. This brings to the fore, the dire need for capacity building and training of health and non-health workforce around Public Health Surveillance. A consortium of organizations in India and UAE has jointly spearheaded the need for a symposium around Public Health Surveillance capacity building. This symposium will provide a medium for public health experts from USA, Europe, UAE, and India to come together on one stage and collaborate for laying out appropriate curricula around this area.
This symposium will lay the foundation for Public Health Surveillance capacity building initiatives which will involve a 6-month Certification program in Public Health Surveillance (CPHS) through 4 interdisciplinary courses comprising of: Community Health Care and Public health practice; Health systems; Health Policy Management and Health Information systems and Surveillance. Each of 4 courses will cover basics of PHS for, both, health, and non-health workers with focus on PHS competencies and outcomes and will be offered as a ‘Value Add Course’ to the existing curriculum.
Accreditations
This CPHS will be aligned to national and international standards for earning local and global accreditations, which provides flexibility for successful trainees to stack up credits earned to further upgrade their competencies through additional certifications which can continue till earning a Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Bachelor’s and/or Masters in PHS to serve as a surveillance professional.
